This famous bagel shop from Washington, D.C., is coming to Coral Gables

More famous bagels are heading to South Florida.

The latest spot to jump into the fray is Call Your Mother, a Washington, D.C.-based bagel spot that has become famous for taking Jewish deli favorites and creating new twists on them.

The brand began at a stall at a D.C. farmers market in 2018, and its popularity led to owners Andrew Dana and Daniela Moreira to open a few dozen shops in Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and even Colorado.

The bagels are the creations of Moreira, who grew up in Argentina but learned quickly how to make bagels that caused a splash. The Culinary Institute of America graduate made the Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list and led the kitchen as a co-founder of Timber Pizza Company, a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand.

The Gables menu will include the favorites that have made Call Your Mother so popular: the Jetski (brisket, pastrami, sofrito, cheese and jalapeño on a cheddar bagel); the DelRay Club (bacon, jalapeño, nectarine, potato chips and peach cream cheese on a plain bagel); and the SunCity (bacon, pastrami or impossible sausage, egg, cheese, spicy honey on an everything bagel).

This is the first Florida expansion for the brand. It might not be the last. Dana, who grew up in D.C. but visited his Jewish grandparents in South Florida a few times every year, hinted that Coral Gables may not be the only city in South Florida to get a Call Your Mother.

“We don’t have a big master plan now,” he said. “But we love the sunshine, and we’re looking for more great neighborhoods in need of carbs.”

Call Your Mother is expected to open on Miracle Mile in late 2026.
