Roaches on curtains and rodent poop under fryer spotted at Miami-Dade sub shop

The bowels of rodents and roaches led to the failed inspection and shutdown of a North Miami Beach sub shop.

Eat & Run Subs had been open since March 2024 at 16775 N. Miami Ave. without falling short of standards over three previous inspections. But Thursday’s routine inspection turned up 10 violations, four of which were high priority.

“Two live roaches crawling on the curtain in the kitchen’s entrance,” inspectors wrote in their report.

Others left “25-plus droppings on the floor under the three-compartment sink” and “10-plus droppings on the floor under the bread shelves.”

The rodents left over 20 droppings “on the floor, under the display case at the front counter handwash sink” and another 20-plus pieces under the fryers. The top of the water heater and the floor under the mop sink each had five.

The three-compartment sink had rodent droppings underneath, but no sanitizer inside. A triple sink’s three jobs are wash, rinse and sanitize. Two out of three is bad.

A slicer had “old food debris.”

The kitchen handwash sink had “old debris,” which indicates not enough handwashing occurred to wash down the food. Also, handwash sinks aren’t supposed to contain food debris. Also, “no paper towels or mechanical hand drying device were provided at the handwash sink.”

“Heavily soiled with old food debris” described the walk-in cooler floor.

Eat & Run passed a callback inspection Friday to reopen in time for weekend business.
