Miami-Dade detectives make arrest in five-year-old cold case murder

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives made an arrest this week in a five-year-old cold case murder, the agency said.

The case dates back to Feb. 4, 2021, when officers of the then-Miami-Dade Police Department conducted a welfare check at a home at Northeast 199th Street and 10th Ave. and found the body of 45-year-old Lenoris Henry Marlowe wrapped in a blanket and stabbed multiple times.

Detectives of what has since become the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office have been working on the case ever since, said Detective Samantha Choon, an agency spokeswoman.

The sheriff’s office this week said that 36-year-old Itiaba Ekong admitted to detectives that he stabbed Marlowe, Choon said. He’s being charged with first-degree murder, burglary with an assault and/or battery and grand theft.

Ekong’s living arrangements likely won’t change because of the charges.

He’s already serving life in prison at the Liberty Correctional Institute in Bristol for a May 2022 armed robbery with a deadly weapon conviction after a long history of arrests and convictions on similar charges going back to 2014, state corrections records show.
