Coral Springs school cop fired after women report ‘sexual’ conversations: police

A Coral Springs police officer tasked with protecting adolescents at a high school was fired after several women came forward about “sexual” and “inappropriate” conversations, authorities say.

Officer Raymond Kerner served as a school resource officer at J.P. Taravella High School from 2013 to 2021, Coral Springs police said in a statement. He retired but returned in 2022 as a part-time, seasonal school resource officer at Eagle Ridge Elementary.

In April, several women told the police department Kerner engaged in “inappropriate behavior” and had “conversations of a sexual nature” during his time as a school resource officer, police said.

“Accountability matters. Transparency matters,” said Chief Brad Mock in a statement. “We investigated these allegations, took immediate action, and now the investigation is closed.”

An Internal Affairs investigation was opened. Immediately following the allegations, the department said, Kerner was relieved of duty and fired.

CBS News Miami, a Miami Herald news partner, reported the women were former students. One said that when she was 21 years old, a few years after she graduated, he allegedly put his hand down her shirt to give her money. Another former student said he showed her porn in his school office as he touched himself.

Authorities say there might be more victims and are encouraging them to share their stories. Anyone with information about his conduct is asked to call Sgt. Ernesto Bruna with the Coral Springs Police Department at 954-346-1234.

“Officer Kerner’s conduct is inexcusable,” Chief Mock said. “Wearing this badge gives an officer authority, but it also places great responsibility on that officer to exercise good judgment and protect the trust placed in us. That responsibility is especially important when an officer works with our youth.”
