Bears Roster Tracker: Every Move Made Ahead of Week 5

The Chicago Bears are heading into one of their biggest tests of the young season. Chicago travels to Lambeau Field on Sunday, to face the Green Bay Packers in a Week 5 NFC North showdown.

Chicago has won three straight games, and a victory over the Packers would give the Bears another major boost early in the season. However, Chicago has some injury concerns to manage. Subsequently, the Bears have also made several roster moves over the past week, adding depth to their secondary and receiving corps while placing an offensive lineman on injured reserve.

Here’s a complete look at Chicago’s transactions ahead of Week 5.

Bears Sign Elijah Jones and Scotty Miller, Release De’Antre Prince and Marcus Davenport

October 6: Elijah Jones and Scotty Miller Join the Practice Squad

The Bears signed defensive back Elijah Jones and wide receiver Scotty Miller to the practice squad on Tuesday, October 6.

Jones adds another defensive back to Chicago’s developmental group. Scotty Miller returns to Chicago after being released from the practice squad on September 24. The veteran receiver provides experience and familiarity with the organization.

If Chicago needs additional receiving depth later in the season, he could be an option for a call-up, although the team has not announced a change to his practice-squad status. Neither signing automatically places the player on the active roster for Sunday’s game.

October 6: De’Antre Prince Released From Practice Squad

Chicago released defensive back De’Antre Prince from the practice squad on October 6.

The move opened a spot for Elijah Jones, allowing the Bears to adjust their defensive-back depth. Practice-squad spots are limited, and teams regularly make changes as they evaluate matchups, injuries and player development.

October 5: Marcus Davenport Released From Practice Squad

Defensive lineman Marcus Davenport had been elevated to the active roster for Chicago’s Week 4 game against the New York Jets on October 3. He was one of two practice-squad players brought up for that contest.

The veteran defensive lineman has appeared in 77 regular-season NFL games over his career, recording 25 sacks and 71 quarterback hits. His experience gives him a useful background, but Chicago ultimately moved on from him on the practice squad after his game-day elevation.

Bears Injury List and Active-Roster Moves Ahead of Week 5

October 3: Braxton Jones Placed on Injured Reserve

Offensive lineman Braxton Jones’ move creates a challenge for Chicago’s offensive-line depth. The Bears need to keep Williams protected, especially with the quarterback dealing with a hamstring injury.

The offensive line will be under pressure against Green Bay’s defense. Chicago must establish a reliable pocket and create running lanes to prevent the offense from becoming too dependent on its passing game.

October 3: Nick McCloud and Marcus Davenport Elevated to Active Roster

Chicago elevated defensive back Nick McCloud and defensive lineman Marcus Davenport from the practice squad for its Week 4 game against the Jets.

McCloud’s elevation gave the Bears another option in the secondary, while Davenport added experience and depth along the defensive front. Under NFL rules, both players reverted to the practice squad after the game, without requiring waivers. Davenport was subsequently released from the practice squad on October 5.

McCloud’s Week 4 elevation should not be confused with a permanent promotion to the 53-man roster. His availability for the Packers game will depend on any subsequent roster transaction.
