Pembroke Pines police make arrest in fatal duck-stomping investigation

Pembrokes Pines police arrested a man they say was captured on security camera footage stomping a mother duck and her ducklings to death late last month.

The department released the gruesome footage last week, asking for the public’s help in finding him. Police said a witness was able to figure out who the man was, and officers arrested 40-year-old Christopher Antoine on Monday, the department said in a social media post.

Antoine was booked into Broward County’s main jail in Fort Lauderdale on one count of animal cruelty causing death, pain and suffering. He also faces a probation violation for a 2024 criminal mischief conviction, court records show.

A judge had not set bond as of Monday.

The security camera filmed him abusing the animals on Sunday, Aug. 23, in a lot between a Denny’s restaurant and a dental clinic near North University Drive and Northwest 13th Street, according to police. The man in the footage stomped the adult duck and then stood on the animal.

The footage also showed him chasing what could be the dead duck’s ducklings and kicking bushes, presumably trying to kill birds that were trying to get away from him.
