Hurricane Isaias Latest

Isaias made landfall around 8:30 p.m. CDT Friday along the Florida Panhandle near Destin as a Category 2 hurricane, per FOX10. By 10 p.m. CDT, it had weakened to a Category 1 with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. The center was about 45 miles east-northeast of Pensacola, moving north at 20 mph into southern Alabama. It is expected to become post-tropical Saturday.

Earlier Friday, at 1 p.m. CT, the National Hurricane Center had Isaias as a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 120 mph. The center was about 145 miles south of Pensacola, Florida, and about 125 miles east-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River, moving north-northeast near 16 mph, per the NHC advisory.

The hurricane warning ran from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf County line in Florida. The storm came ashore inside that area, well east of New Orleans.

What It Means for New Orleans

New Orleans is west of the forecast landfall area. The National Weather Service in New Orleans has a tropical storm warning and storm surge warning in effect for eastern Orleans Parish, lower Plaquemines, lower St. Bernard and southeast St. Tammany, per its local hurricane statement.

The NWS forecasts tropical-storm-force gusts, locally heavy rain and 3 to 5 feet of storm surge for coastal southeast Louisiana from the mouth of the Mississippi to the Pearl River, not including Lake Pontchartrain. It lists Friday afternoon into Saturday morning as the most likely window for impacts. That window ends before Saturday’s start time.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported no “danger as far as the show not taking place,” though the city could see “nasty” weather, per eWrestlingNews.
