The attack happened around 6 p.m. at Northwest 145th Street and 11th Court, the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies arrived, they saw Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics treating the woman, but they also saw several dogs in another yard. The deputies tried to close the gate, but the dogs went to attack them, said Detective Samantha Choon, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

One of the deputies opened fire, and the dogs ran away, Choon said, adding the sheriff’s office does not know if any of the dogs were shot. No one else was injured, Choon said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said its paramedics took the woman, who has not been named, to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The Miami Herald has reached out to Miami-Dade Animal Services asking if any of the dogs were located.
