MARCA reports the footage runs about 40 seconds. In MARCA’s telling, Paul “circled cautiously, occasionally throwing punches while watching its movements” while someone off camera told him to “start jabbing around it.” SportBible says the snake was “surprisingly calm.” It also reported that a voice behind the camera said, “I’ve never seen anybody hit a punching bag with a snake on it.”

The boxing account IFN shared the clip several hours before Happy Punch and credited it to the Instagram account _spidey24. Paul hadn’t posted the video on his own X account as of Monday. Who filmed it and when is still unclear.

Fans Weren’t Having It

The top reply under the Happy Punch post was blunt. It’s the one MARCA highlighted, and it has more than 4,000 likes.

“Bro this is just animal abuse,” wrote @PaulLaticks.

Other replies went the same way. “The f*** did the snake do to him? This is trashy man,” wrote @Chucky_Glenn.

“Whoever owns that snake should have it taken away cus this is just animal abuse,” another user posted.

Some fans focused on the snake’s welfare. “There’s no advantage to this, it’s just stressing an animal out and putting an animal at risk,” one wrote. Another tagged the animal-rights group directly: “So.. animal abuse? @peta what are yall doing??”

The Jaw Jokes Wrote Themselves

Plenty of replies brought up how Paul’s last fight ended. “How’s is this going to help his glass jaw?” asked @RyanGoodWood.

“Personally I would train with something that has arms,” another fan wrote.

Not everyone was outraged. “Did the animal get hit? … if not, then no abuse,” one user replied. Another said Paul “is an idiot, I agree,” but questioned what the problem was.

As of Monday, PETA had made no public statement, according to Yahoo. Paul and Happy Punch hadn’t commented either.

Where Paul’s Comeback Stands

The clip comes days after MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian posted on Oct. 8 that “Jake Paul has been cleared to return to the boxing ring.” ESPN reports that Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) is targeting an early-2027 return. No opponent or date has been set.

Anthony Joshua stopped Paul in the sixth round on Dec. 19, 2025, in Miami. The loss left Paul with a jaw broken in two places, and he needed surgeries in December and February.

On Oct. 7, Paul posted a wish list of 14 targets that included Canelo Alvarez, Francis Ngannou, Conor McGregor and Deontay Wilder:

Before I rest…

Francis Ngannou

Conor McGregor (Boxing & MMA)

Sean Strickland

Darren Till

Ryan Garcia

Chris Eubank

Edgar Berlanga

Tom Aspinall (Boxing)

Deontay Wilder

Not His First Training Sidekick

Paul has brought an animal into his training content before. In May 2025, he shared videos playing in the ring with his golden retriever, Thor, and called the dog his new “boxing coach.” Fans liked that one a lot more.
