This Caribbean restaurant and rum bar has ‘closed for summer’ in Miami Beach

Another Miami Beach restaurant has decided to take a seasonal pause.

Las’ Lap, the Caribbean restaurant and rum bar from New York that opened last year at the Daydrift Hotel, has announced on its Instagram account that it is now “closed for summer.” You can no longer make a reservation on the restaurant’s Resy account, and the Instagram account does not offer a date for reopening.

The Miami Beach location at 2216 Park Ave. was the first expansion for Las’ Lap, which opened in New York’s Lower East Side in 2018. The New York bar quickly became a hot spot known for its creative cocktails, particularly those infused with rum.

The Miami Las’ Lap added another distinction: chef and partner Kwame Onwuachi, who became known for outstanding Afro-Caribbean cuisine and an appearance on “Top Chef.” Onwuachi was named the Rising Star Chef of the Year award by the James Beard Foundation in 2019.

The dishes he brought to life at Las’ Lap include Escovitch crab claws with pickled onion and carrot; snapper with guacamole and tostones; jerk mushroom yakitori and wagyu griot. Even the caviar service arrived at the table with roti.

The closing comes on the heels of another seasonal pause on South Beach. The luxurious French restaurant La Grande Boucherie located in the South of Fifth neighborhood also announced it was taking an open-ended break for the summer.
