Rolando Dy vs. Scott McHugh

Dy (6-1, 5 KOs) is the first Filipino fighter to win a BKB world title and is the son of former WBC world champion Rolando Navarrete. He won the super welterweight belt from Liam Rees. In his first defense, he stopped former two-division boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi in the second round on May 16, 2026, at Manchester’s AO Arena.

McHugh (17-5, 7 KOs) is from Leeds and has held BKB titles five times. He’s a Bare Knuckle Hall of Fame inductee and one of the most experienced fighters in the sport, according to LowKick MMA. The fight gives him a chance to win BKB gold again in front of a home-country crowd.

Why the Main Event Changed

Dy vs. McHugh wasn’t the original headliner. BKB first planned for North Shields heavyweight Mick Terrill to headline his home region against Poland’s Kamil Sokolowski.

Terrill took a heavyweight title fight with champion Gustavo Trujillo in Miami on less than three days’ notice and came away with a cut that won’t heal by October 10. BKB moved Dy vs. McHugh into the main event. Terrill is expected to attend BKB 60 as a special guest.

“Rolando Dy vs. Scott McHugh is exactly the kind of fight we want at the top of the bill for our first-ever event in Newcastle,” BKB CEO David Tetreault said in a statement announcing the change.

Sokolowski stays on the card and now faces British heavyweight Mark O’Neil in the co-main event.

JoJo Diaz Jr. Makes His U.K. Debut

Diaz (1-0, 1 KO in bare knuckle) faces Brian Hyslop (2-1, 1 KO) in a super lightweight bout. The 2012 U.S. Olympian and former IBF super featherweight champion stopped Nate Williams in the first round of his BKB debut at BKB 56 in Los Angeles on July 18.

All 45 of Diaz’s previous professional fights took place in the United States or Mexico. “Newcastle is going to be the first, and I’m doing it bare knuckle,” Diaz said, per FightBook MMA.
