North Miami Beach apartments shot up 10 times with teens, baby inside: police

An apartment complex in North Miami Beach was shot at least 10 times last month, with bullets flying into at least two units with several teenagers and an infant inside, according to police. The man who pulled the trigger was jailed on Monday, police say.

On June 20th, at around 5:30 p.m., North Miami Beach Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at an apartment complex with one home having 10 gunshot impacts that went into the apartment next door, according to the arrest warrant for De’Undre Rashad Robert Turner, 35, of Miramar.

Turner is charged with seven counts of attempted murder — one for each person inside the apartment units he is accused of shooting into.

A teenage boy told police that he had been visiting a friend in one of the apartments and left around 5 p.m. The teen walked east on Northeast 167th Street and turned south on West Dixie Highway to catch a bus home.

As the teen walked toward Serenity Bay Nursing, 16650 West Dixie Highway, a black Chevrolet pickup truck slowed down next to him.

A passenger in the truck accused him of breaking into his wife’s car, police say. He ran when the man tried get out of the truck.

The teen ran behind Serenity Bay nursing, jumped a fence and entered the Aqua Vista Townhomes at 2054 NE 167th and then exited back onto Northeast 167th Street, where he saw the same black Chevrolet pickup truck waiting for him, police say.

In fear, the teen ran back to his friend’s apartment. After his friend let him back inside, several gunshots were fired at the home.

Detectives spoke with the property manager, who provided them with surveillance footage they say corroborates what the teen had told them, including the description of the man in the truck.

A still image of the man was run through a facial recognition system, which police say led them to Turner. The teenage boy also identified Turner in a photo lineup as the man who confronted him prior to the shooting.

Police say that Turner also has tattoos and clothing that match the man captured on surveillance footage.

Turner was denied bond and remains jailed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday.
