NFL Weather Report: Eagles-Titans Forecast Raises Heat Concerns

The Philadelphia Eagles will look to move to 2-0 when they visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon, but the teams will have another factor to manage at Nissan Stadium. Philadelphia opened the season with a 24-22 win over the Washington Commanders, while Tennessee lost 23-10 to the New York Jets. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, putting the game right in the middle of Nashville’s hottest part of the day.

Nashville has been dealing with an extraordinary stretch of late-summer heat heading into the matchup. The city recorded temperatures of at least 90 degrees through the first 16 days of September, including four days that reached triple digits. Saturday brought another day in the 100s, setting up an unusually hot Sunday for the Eagles’ trip to Tennessee.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that temperatures are expected to reach 95 degrees for the game, with the heat index potentially climbing above 105 degrees. That could make Eagles-Titans one of, if not the, hottest games in Titans franchise history.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Nashville through Sunday evening, with its forecast calling for a high around 98 degrees and heat-index values reaching 105.

The conditions could place an added premium on hydration, substitutions and managing player workloads. Both teams will be playing outdoors at Nissan Stadium, where the heat and humidity can become more difficult to handle as the game progresses.

Philadelphia also has to account for the fact that its roster is built for a physical game against a Titans team playing its second consecutive home game. Tennessee will have the benefit of familiar surroundings, but the extreme conditions could affect both teams, particularly players logging heavy workloads on offense and defense.

Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and the rest of Philadelphia’s offense will face a Tennessee defense that allowed 152 rushing yards in its opener. The Titans, meanwhile, will try to use their home-field advantage while dealing with conditions that are expected to be among the hottest they have experienced at Nissan Stadium.
