Miami temperature hit 100 — and broke a record. Will the heat stick around?

Miami hit 100 degrees on Tuesday. And if you were outside, you felt it.

The high temperature tied a record set in 1942, according to the National Weather Service.

“Today was the city’s hottest day in 84 years and only the second time reaching 100,” Florida meteorologist Matt Devitt reported. “Scorcher!”

The 100 degrees also broke the record of 96 for the day, Aug. 18, set in 2022.

Here’s something you don’t hear often: “It was more of a dry heat,” said Nic Merianos, a meteorologist for Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami.

Dry or not, if you think 100 degrees is hot, it felt even hotter — with a heat index of around 112. That feels-like number combines the air temperature and the humidity. The weather service issued a heat advisory Tuesday set to end at 7 p.m.

Wednesday will be hot, too, with a forecast high of 95, according to the weather service.

A rain chance of 30% later in the day could cool things off. The rain chance increases to 50% on Thursday.
