The package was labeled with the number “333,” the same number found on other loads of cocaine found recently in the Keys, the sheriff’s office said.

This one was found around 2:15 p.m. off Summerland Key, in the Lower Keys. A kilogram, or 2.2-pound, brick of cocaine labeled with “333” was found almost two weeks ago in the same area.

The sheriff’s office told the Miami Herald over the summer after another package of cocaine was found in the Keys that the labels let the smugglers know who bought the contraband and where it’s to be delivered. Bricks found in the Keys in previous washups have had either numbers or images, like a lion, stamped on them.

Bricks of cocaine and bales of marijuana washing up on the shore or being found floating at sea is fairly common in the Keys. The loads are lost in transit during smuggling runs.

The half brick found Monday was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol, which is standard procedure, according to the sheriff’s office.
