Florida sheriff’s SWAT team called after shots fired in Martin County

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office had been on scene of a situation involving an armed and dangerous person at a residence on Southwest Bessy Creek Trail near Murphy Road.

Deputies initially responded to reports of shots fired outside of the residence, the Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page shortly before 5 p.m. on Sept. 19. Additional calls indicated the incident was domestic-related and involved an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Sheriff’s Office later posted a photograph of a man being led out of the home in handcuffs, but did not state his name or what charges he had been arrested on.

The person was contained inside the home, with road patrol, detectives, SWAT and a hostage negotiation team on scene working to resolve the situation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office had told people to avoid the area.
