Ex-UM urologist arrested on allegations that he sexually assaulted his students

A former University of Miami doctor accused of sexually battering several medical students by giving them unwanted prostate exams was arrested at Miami International Airport on Thursday.

Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy, 45, was handcuffed at the airport around 10:45 a.m. and appeared in bond court in the afternoon. He posted a $120,000 bond and was placed on house arrest.

The renowned urologist will be staying with his wife and children at a home in Sarasota. Ramasamy surrendered after returning from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he was working at a clinic, according to court records.

Miami-Dade Bond Court Judge Mindy Glazer also ordered him to stay away from the victims.

Ramasamy had been wanted since October 2025, when a judge issued an arrest warrant for him. The doctor, who is facing three counts of sexual battery, has pleaded not guilty.

Ramasamy, who was employed at the University of Miami as a professor of urology and director of male reproductive medicine and surgery, is accused of sexually assaulting students as far back as 2016, according to his arrest warrant.

The University of Miami couldn’t be immediately reached for comments on Ramasamy’s arrest.

Three of Ramasamy’s students, whom the doctor allegedly diagnosed with different conditions, told detectives that Ramasamy performed prostate exams that were “much longer and aggressive” than regular prostate exams, according to the warrant.

Ramasamy did not document any of the procedures on the students’ charts.

The warrant also mentions at least three other victims who shared similar accounts with detectives.

“None of these procedures were medically indicated, they were performed in a manner inconsistent with the standard of care, alone and after normal business hours, and fall far outside the acceptable bounds of any medical practice,” detectives say in the warrant.
