The star linebacker, who suffered a foot injury during Sunday’s 31-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals that momentarily sidelined him before his return at the top of the third quarter, was one of several players who sat out Tuesday. Edge Robert Beal Jr., cornerback Reese Taylor, running back Jaylen Wright, wide receiver Caleb Douglas and right guard Jonah Savaiinaea also did not practice.

Savaiinaea, who hurt his ankle Sunday and failed to return, was “doing okay,” according to coach Jeff Hafley. Wright also was spotted in the locker room with a walking book on his left foot.

And while that list of DNPs runs rather long, Wednesday’s practice was primarily meant for players who didn’t receive much playing time vs. the Bengals.

Willis doesn’t throw

Another surprise during Tuesday’s practice came when quarterback Malik Willis didn’t throw.

Again, it should be noted that a lot of guys who would have been limited in a regular practice just didn’t participate due to the upcoming bye week.

Roster move

The Dolphins signed quarterback Brady Cook to the practice squad and released running back Jarquez Hunter.

This comes just roughly few months after the Dolphins traded wide receiver Tutu Atwell to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Hunter.

Despite De’Von Achane’s season-ending knee injury, Hunter was unable to make the 53-man roster in the two following games. The Dolphins, instead, opted to use running back Carlos Washington Jr.

Miami had previously released Cook from the active roster on Saturday to make way for defensive lineman Kenneth Grant. The Dolphins claimed the former Missouri quarterback from the New York Jets in early September.

Cook started four games for the Jets in 2025, all of which ended in losses. During this brief stint, he completed 60% of his passes for 576 yards and two touchdowns while also tossing five interceptions.
