Broward man sentenced to 26 years for kidnapping, carjacking hired driver

A Broward man was sentenced to more than 26 years in prison for ordering a chauffeur to “drive or be killed” at gunpoint after repeatedly shooting another woman, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Bakari Jahiem Dixson, 24, of West Park, was sentenced to 319 months by a federal judge after a jury found him guilty in March of kidnapping, carjacking and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida said in a Tuesday statement.

Dixson hired a chauffeur service in Fort Lauderdale on Aug. 2, 2025, the statement said, and the driver witnessed him shoot a woman multiple times.

After the shooting, Dixson and several associates got in the chauffeur’s vehicle and ordered him to drive, the statement said. The driver, “fearing for his life,” took them from Fort Lauderdale to West Park before dropping them off at Dixson’s home.

Dixson was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, 11 days after the incident. His attorney didn’t immediately respond Tuesday night to a request for comments.

The woman was shot in the chest multiple times and survived, according to Broward County court records. Dixson is accused of attempted murder, armed kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident, court records show. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.

“After shooting a woman multiple times, Bakari Jahiem Dixson turned a hired driver into his getaway driver at gunpoint and threatened to kill him if he did not comply,” U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones said in the statement. “This was a terrifying act of violence that showed complete disregard for human life.”
