Are gas prices up or down in your area? Check the cost in Florida cities

As the school year gets into gear and as we get back to work from summer vacation, South Florida drivers are seeing stable prices at the pump so far this week.

The average gas prices in Florida dropped 2 cents a gallon and are up a penny in the Miami area.

“Florida drivers saw a little relief at the pump last week, even as oil prices moved higher,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “That could limit how much further pump prices fall in the near term. If crude oil remains elevated, drivers could see renewed upward pressure at the pump.”

The average price in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, still averaging under $4 a gallon, is 8 cents a gallon lower than a month ago but 86 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida

North Florida is the cheapest to pump in Florida while the Keys and Palm Beach County are the most expensive areas to buy gas, according to AAA.

Miami-Dade: The average price: $3.89 on Monday, Aug. 17, a penny increase from a week ago, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $3.93, same as a week ago.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $4.04, a penny increase from a week ago.

Monroe County: $4.11, a 1 penny increase from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Monday, Aug. 17, according to AAA, is $3.84, a 2-cent decrease from a week ago.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Monday, Aug. 17, according to AAA, is $4.06, a 6-cent increase from a week ago.

“Average gasoline prices climbed back above $4 per gallon over the last week, with prices rising in slightly more states than they fell, as rebounding oil prices driven by the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries kept upward pressure on the market. Diesel felt the pressure even more acutely, rising in all but a few states, as Ukraine’s attacks on Russian refining infrastructure continue to impact refined product prices more than crude oil itself. While the seasonal transition to cheaper winter-blend gasoline in the coming month could bring some relief, the two dominant challenges facing motorists— the closed Strait and the ongoing refinery strikes— show no signs of resolving anytime soon. Until they do, the path for gas and diesel prices remains tilted to the upside.”
