This week, we continue the 2026-27 school year feature where we ask you to vote for a top high school varsity performer of the week (in Broward and Miami-Dade counties).

Nominees this week are from high school bowling, football, golf and volleyball.

Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, September 10 til around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the nominees.

Ella Alicea, Somerset Silver Palms volleyball: the senior had 27 kills, 11 digs, 5 assists, and 1 block in a 4-set win over Homestead Keys Gate and 20 kills, 5 aces and 7 digs in a 3-set win over Archimedean.

Julieta Beyer, Palmetto volleyball: the sophomore had 25 kills and 14 digs in a five-set victory over Coral Reef as the Panthers improved to 5-0.

Angelie Brito, Ferguson bowling: the sophomore had the high game (233) and the high series (564) to lead the Falcons over Barbara Goleman.

Kayo DeRezende, Coral Glades football: the QB junior led a big second half comeback in a 28-24 win over North Broward Prep. Trailing 21-0 at halftime, Coral Glades out scored the Eagles 28-3 in the second half. DeRezende went 11-of-13 passing for 278 yards and ran for another 104 yards to ignite the second half rally. He capped the winning 93-yard drive on a touchdown pass with 57 seconds remaining to McKendrick Thomas.

Abdul Hopkins, American football: the senior DB totaled 9 solo tackles and 5 assists and made 3 interceptions, including a key Pick-6 (54 yards) to put the Patriots ahead 33-25 in the fourth quarter en route to the win over host North Miami.

Jeremiah Milcent, Monarch football: the junior QB was 25-of-32 passing for 415 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-41 win over visiting Miramar. The week prior he tossed three touchdown passes and totaled 334 yards on 19-of-32 passing in a 49-22 loss to visiting Chaminade-Madonna. He also had three carries for 26 yards against the Lions.

Axel Monssoh, Ransom Everglades golf: the freshman won medalist honors by shooting 4-under par 31 to lead a team victory against Florida Christian and Westminster Christian at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables.

Edward Nelson, Miami Beach football: the sophomore scored on a 10-yard run, caught 5 passes for 107 yards, had 2 pancake blocks and made 2 solo tackles with 2 assists in a 42-6 victory over St. Brendan as the host Hi-Tides improved to 2-0.

Brookman Tyrer, Plantation American Heritage golf: the junior was Broward/Miami-Dade’s top finisher at the 26th annual American Heritage Golf Invitational at Lago Mar Country Club in Plantation. He was fifth overall at even-par 72.
