Supermodel Karlie Kloss had babies at this Miami hospital. Now, she’s giving back

Lending the wow factor to the newly renovated space at the Women’s Hospital is local supermodel Karlie Kloss. She and her husband Joshua Kushner’s eponymous foundation donated $2.5 million for the glow-up. Included in the recent makeover are improvements to the labor and delivery unit, the obstetric recovery area and ultrasound room.

The couple presided over a ribbon-cutting of the namesake Karlie Kloss Center for Maternal Health on Wednesday.

The facility is designed to provide expectant mothers across South Florida with “timely, specialized obstetrical care in a modern, welcoming and supportive environment,” according to a statement.

The opening is the latest investment in The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial’s nationally recognized maternity program. Flavia Llizo, CEO of the Jackson Health Foundation, called the high-profile pair’s donation a “remarkable gift.”

About that gift: The cause was personal for the Victoria’s Secret alum. The 34-year-old gave birth there to all three kids, Levi, 5, Elijah, 3, and Rae, who turns 1 in September.

At a ceremony this week, Kloss took the mic telling the crowd she first came to Jackson as an “excited but also scared” patient during the pandemic. The person who made her feel the “most safe” during the experience? Dr. Angela Reyes-Truong, who was on hand at the event and happened to deliver all of Kloss’ children.

“There’s no greater joy in my life than being a mother,” Kloss said, getting emotional. “I always joke that if I could, I would have 100 babies. But since that may not be in the cards, this feels like the next best thing.”

The Chicago-born catwalker went on to reveal that she grew up witnessing the healthcare industry firsthand thanks to her father. Illinois-based Dr. Kurt Kloss, who also was in attendance at the ribbon-cutting, trained at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

It’s “more than a profession. It is a life of service, it is a commitment to caring for others, often on their hardest days,” said the Vogue magazine vet. “That is what I see in all of you: the nurses, doctors, sanitation staff, administrators, construction teams, every person in their different way has devoted themselves to the Miami community. …. Miracles really do happen here every day.”

This isn’t the first time Kloss has dipped into her toe into philanthropic causes in the 305, where she and Kushner bought a $23.5 million mansion on Miami Beach’s North Bay Road in late 2020.

In May, she joined the Board of Directors of the Lotus Endowment Fund, which supports the Lotus House in Overtown, the nation’s largest women’s homeless shelter. Her pal, fellow local supermodel Gisele Bundchen, donated $1 million to the shelter in 2023; the funds were earmarked for a playground and educational programming.

Kloss’s 41-year-old husband is making headlines these days, too. The venture capitalist, whose older brother Jared is married to Ivanka Trump, is joining former Disney CEO Bob Iger in purchasing the L.A. Lakers for $12.5 billion. If approved, the deal would set a record for the highest price ever paid for a professional sports team.
