This local family-owned restaurant is bringing its burgers to North Miami

One of South Florida’s favorite burger spots is coming to North Miami.

The appropriately named Burgers & Shakes arrives on 125th Street on Aug. 4.

This is the fourth location for the brand, which was started in 2011 by George Iglesias. He opened the first Burgers & Shakes at 74th and Collins not far from the popular Italian restaurant he opened with his sister Elizabeth, George’s Italian Restaurant, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

George’s serves a widely ranging menu of pasta, pizza, paninis and classic Italian fare. But with Burgers & Fries, which also has locations in Miami Beach, Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale, Iglesias’ idea was to keep it simple. No special sauces, no smashing. Just big juicy burgers (and a few other choices).

“My sister and I grew up loving those classic burger joints in Los Angeles, and we knew we wanted to bring a similar offering to Miami, since there was really nothing like it,” said Iglesias, who also owns and operates the Cuban restaurant Sazon in North Beach.

The cheeseburger is a customer favorite, but Burgers & Shakes also serves a whole grilled fish filet sandwich, a veggie burger and a grilled chicken burger. There are also hot dogs, sliders and sweet potato fries.

Iglesias said the simplicity has worked well for the brand, which is not operating franchises and remains family owned.

“It’s such a simple offering yet we have regular customers who come back just craving the simple, high-quality items,” he said. “We’re committed to delivering a product and experience that never compromises.”

This isn’t the last expansion for Burger & Shakes. Two new locations are coming, one in North Miami Beach and the other in Miami’s MiMo neighborhood in the former space of Andiamo Brick Oven Pizza on Biscayne Boulevard.
