Miami state attorney ‘regrets’ fiancé parking his Porsche in fire lane at lunch
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said she regrets that her fiancé parked in a fire lane at a popular deli over the weekend where they had lunch — a decision that was blasted on social media and followed by unfriendly comments.

Under the headline “Miami entitlement and elitism,” Redditer Scott Segal posted three photos on the popular R/Miami account on social media site Reddit. He told the Miami Herald in an interview Monday that he was at Roasters ‘N Toasters deli on U.S. 1 in Pinecrest on Saturday for lunch and saw the state attorney and her boyfriend arrive in his Porsche. She got out and went inside. He parked in the fire lane at the shopping center, where parking can be scarce on the weekend.
When her fiancé David Efron got inside, Segal said Fernandez Rundle asked him, “Are you going to leave your car sitting right there?”
Segal posted three photos: Two showed the light gray Taycan, an electric vehicle that Porsche says retails from $111,900, sitting on the fire lane stripes in a shopping plaza. A third showed the couple in a booth, dining.
Under the photos, a caption read, “State attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and her husband are so entitled that they can’t even go park their car and walk to Roasters to have lunch. They parked in the fire lane right outside the front door and went in to sit casually and have their brunch.”
Efforts to contact Efron were unsuccessful.
Parking in a fire lane is a non-criminal traffic violation that can result in towing or fines.

The post got 352,000 views, and many snarky comments suggesting a call to a towing company would be a good remedy.
Fernandez Rundle, when asked by the Miami Herald, said through her office that she was “aware” of the Reddit post. In an email, she expressed regret and said the parking snafu was not related to her job. Fernandez Rundle, 72, has been head of the prosecutors’ office in Miami-Dade since 1993. She was most recently elected, unopposed, in 2024.
“I am aware of the photo taken when my fiancé parked the car in a fire lane as we went to lunch on Saturday,” Fernandez Rundle said in an emailed response to the Herald. “We were not doing anything related to my work as State Attorney. I regret that this occurred.”
Segal, founder of J & J Green Paper, said he was prosecuted years ago for financial crimes by Fernandez Rundle’s office, did some prison time, paid $1.1 million restitution, and turned his life around, building a business. He said there was plenty of parking for those willing to walk a little, and he found a spot for the Ferrari he drives. He thought what he witnessed was hypocritical.
“She’s been the state attorney for 30 years,” he said, “and that’s what she does all day long is prosecute people who break the law.”
