The fatal shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2019, at the Shell Gas Station at 840 NW 183rd Street, the Miami Gardens Police Department said in a Tuesday statement.

Rodney Hinds Jr., 17, was sitting inside a car when an unknown person walked up and fired multiple shots into the vehicle, police said. Hinds died at the gas station.

After extensive investigative efforts, the case remained unsolved and was deemed cold, police said. It was later reassigned to the Miami Gardens Police Department Homicide Cold Case Unit.

“Through continued investigative efforts, community cooperation, the relentless dedication of Cold Case detectives from the Miami Gardens Police Department and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, investigators developed new evidence that led to the identification of the suspect, 25-year-old Warren Masai Pollock,” police said.

On June 12, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Pollock on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, police said. Pollock was already being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail in connection with an unrelated murder case.

He is accused of killing a man on March 13, 2022, Broward court records show. His attorney, Michael Le Clerc-Spier, didn’t immediately respond Tuesday night to a request for comment.

Anyone with information about Hinds’ homicide is asked to contact Miami Gardens Police Cold Case Homicide Detective Jose Rodriguez at 305-474-1615 or at [email protected], police said. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
