When Quade first opened, it was a step back in time. It had been a couple of decades since the mall had a bookstore. When the mall opened back in 1984, it had two: B. Dalton Bookseller and Waldenbooks. A Borders and a Barnes & Noble opened nearby a few years later, and both have also since closed.

Now, the Spanish-English Quade, once deemed a ‘must-visit’ by the mall, has been downsized and relocated to a mall kiosk.

Argentina-based Quade Books opened its first U.S. location in July 2024, and its author readings and wide-range of selections brought back memories of the days when a bookstore was part of many communities.

The shop’s location was on the Aventura Mall’s lower level, near Bloomingdale’s. Future plans for that space, now vacant, haven’t been announced.

Quade Books completed its move to a kiosk across from the Nike store at the end of May.

Aventura Mall executives did not respond to several requests for comment and information about the bookstore’s relocation to a kiosk or plans for its former space.

While the format is different, Quade Books is continuing to serve customers from a first-floor common area.
