Miami-based tech entrepreneur Hilmon Sorey is committed to leveling the playing field for South Florida professionals interested in tech jobs. So, Sorey and his organization, The Source, are offering an opportunity.

With support from The Source, Miami nonprofit Get Tech Knowledge has partnered with Grow With Google to have workshops at downtown Miami’s The HUB @ Office Logic, 1501 Biscayne Blvd., Suite 501, and The Source, 14 NE First Ave, suite 602.

Google has allocated 500 free certifications for participants that complete their coursework. Participants must be based in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

“This partnership with Grow With Google made sense,” Sorey said. “This is job training, upskilling and reskilling”

The workshops will be part of Tech Tuesdays, biweekly evening meetups for entrepreneurs and professionals focused on networking and enhancing their skill sets.

A pair of two-day intensive courses will be offered before the end of 2026 for People Management and Google AI Professional certificates. After that, participants will be guided into three different Build, Data and Tech training paths.

Here are the three certificate paths:

Build

  • Participants on this track will learn about user experience (UX) design, project management and digital marketing and be able to turn ideas into things that people can use and find.

Data

  • On this track, participants will learn how to turn data into business decisions. Training will focus on data analytics, advanced data analytics, and business intelligence.

Tech

  • This track prepares participants for careers in IT support, cybersecurity and IT automation with Python, a coding language. Participants are expected to develop the technical skills that help companies run.

About the coursework

Each course will take between three to six months to complete. The Google coursework will be completed online via Coursera, an online learning platform. The online component will allow participants to still sustain their regular responsibilities while studying on a part-time basis.

Previous college education or tech experience is not needed to participate in these trainings.

A Google spokesperson emphasized the importance of helping people hone their tech skills via Google Career Certificates.

“Nearly two-thirds of all new jobs created since 2010 require either high- or medium-level digital skills, but one in three American workers have very limited or no digital skills,” they said. “To help bridge that gap, we created the Google Career Certificates.”

Sorey believes that certifications and credentials are important for jobseekers to have to differentiate themselves in a job market where so many people have similar qualifications.

“The pendulum is swinging back from a financial perspective and this idea of micro-credentials as a means of legitimizing career expertise,” Sorey said.
