Wyatt Langford Reacts to Rangers Play During Win Against Blue Jays

Wyatt Langford found himself at the center of one of the more unusual plays of the Texas Rangers’ 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night.

Langford scored from third base in the sixth inning and had to make an unexpected move at home plate when Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk moved into his path. The Rangers outfielder jumped over Kirk as the throw came toward the plate.

Langford explained the play after the game, telling reporters he was simply focused on running before realizing Kirk was directly in front of him.

“I mean, not much. I just had my head down running. I knew it was going to be close. I just looked up and he was right in my way,” Langford said.

The play became even more unusual when Langford initially missed home plate after clearing Kirk. The throw then got past the catcher, giving Langford enough time to return and touch the plate.

Langford finished the night 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. The performance added to a productive stretch for the 24-year-old outfielder as Texas continues its push toward the end of the regular season.

Langford entered Saturday hitting .244 with 17 home runs, 42 RBI, 15 stolen bases and a .339 on-base percentage in 2026.

The Rangers also had to navigate an early pitching issue. Cal Quantrill left after throwing only 12 pitches because of right lat tightness, forcing Texas into an extended bullpen game.

Josh Jung gave the Rangers an early lead with a solo home run, while the bullpen helped preserve the advantage against Toronto’s lineup.

The win moved Texas to 78-77, keeping the Rangers in first place in the American League West. Toronto fell to 76-79 as its postseason hopes continued to fade.

For Langford, though, the night will be remembered most for a split-second decision that produced one of the game’s more memorable plays.
