Woman lit partner on fire, police say. 2 years later, she is charged with murder

A woman is behind bars Thursday more than two years after, police say, she lit her partner on fire during a Valentine’s Day quarrel.

Shannon Felice Stork, 62, is facing charges of second-degree murder and arson. She is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.

On Feb. 14, 2024, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an apartment complex at 5225 NW 29th Ave. in Brownsville. Deputies found Stork and her partner outside the building with severe burns on their bodies, according to Stork’s arrest report.

Stork told investigators the fire began because she was cleaning shoes with alcohol and lit a cigarette. But in an interview that same day, Stork detailed a conflicting account, although police did not specify in the report what Stork told them.

The woman, who wasn’t named in the document, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where she died due to her injuries on March 18, 2024. Whether the woman provided police with a statement is unclear.

Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted the sheriff’s office, reenacting the scenarios that Stork described, according to the arrest report. They determined that Stork’s accounts were “not possible” and penned a report of their findings.

The report doesn’t mention when ATF’s reenactments took place.

But investigators stated that they took Stork on Wednesday to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office homicide bureau for further questioning.

When detectives spoke to Stork, she again gave differing accounts — and admitted that she and her partner were having personal issues, the report states.

Stork then provided deputies with another story, according to the report:

She was trying to scare her partner by squeezing a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, which is used as a disinfectant, toward the woman. She doused her partner with the flammable liquid, and held a flame to her skin, causing the burn injuries.
