Wife of former Chiefs WR JuJu Smith-Schuster shares painful infertility journey

The wife of former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has shared painful, poignant details of their infertility story, including that she has miscarried twice.

Chiefs wives, including Brittany Mahomes, along with fans are expressing support for the couple on Instagram, where Laura Smith-Schuster posted last week.

Olympic gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles, wife of Colts safety Jonathan Owens who played at Arrowhead on Sunday, also commented: “sending loveee.”

“I never thought my fertility journey would look like this,” she said in a brief video. “Going under for multiple procedures, turning to IVF, and even that not working out.

“There were so many moments I questioned my worth as a woman and felt completely out of control of my own body.

“I shifted my mindset and focused on what I could control. Being healthy, sleeping eight hours, taking my supplements, staying active.”

Laura, a fitness coach, and JuJu got married on July 10, a week after attending his teammate Travis Kelce’s wedding to Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden.

Then Kelce and Swift — in their first public appearance as a married couple — along with several Chiefs teammates attended the Smith-Schuster wedding in California.

Smith-Schuster played three seasons for the Chiefs before he signed with the New York Giants in June. The team released him last month and he is currently unsigned.

In her post, Laura said she finally found out she was pregnant in her wedding month of July. “We were so happy and felt so blessed. But at our 8-week ultrasound, there was no heartbeat,” she said.

“I had never felt a pain like that before, and I felt truly heartbroken.

“Once again, we had to shift our focus and pour everything we had into each other and into the things that brought us joy, finding so much faith and so many little things to be grateful for along the way.”

They bought a house, she got baptized and then one month later she found out she was pregnant again.

At five weeks, she miscarried, again.

“We clung to our faith and helped each other through another heartbreaking loss,” she said. “It’s so easy to get lost in the struggle of trying to conceive, especially as a woman. There have been times I’ve let it define me.

“But one thing I’m learning is that this is only one piece of my life.”

She ended by saying they’re still trying to conceive, “still hopeful, and still choosing to have faith.”

Mahomes commented on the post, telling Laura she was sending them prayers and love. “Yall got this,” the KC Current owner and wife of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes wrote.

Maureen Remigio, wife of chiefs wide receiver Nikko Remigio, wrote: “Your story is so powerful and I just know the best is coming.”

“Praying for you Laura. Proud of you for sharing your story. Thankful you and juju have each other,” wrote Layla Murray, who is engaged to Chiefs punter Matt Araiza.

JuJu weighed in on his wife’s post, too.

“Truly a blessing and God is so faithful! Journey with you … love you pookie you the best!” he wrote.
