What’s the best way to get a job in South Florida? It may start right here

It’s not just another day at the office for Jeanise Munoz.

On Thursday, she’ll be away from her desk, but still on the job, representing her company at a giant job fair in Broward County.

Her goal is to see candidates leave with their hiring papers. The reaction on people’s faces when that happens?

“Surprised and happy,” said Munoz, the Florida Panthers’ director of parking and venue services.

The job fair happens to be in the very building her company, South Florida’s NHL team, does business: Amerant Arena in Sunrise in West Broward.

Dozens of other employers — both in the private and public sectors — that will be at the job fair include the Miami Dolphins, the South Florida Chamber of Commerce and Life Alert.

Candidates, she said, have to approach Thursday’s gathering of employers like it’s a job.

“One of the things that would help is coming prepared,” she said. “Dress professionally. First impressions are everything.”

Munoz says that her company is hiring for part-time roles in food service, parking, housekeeping and guest services.

If interviewing with a recruiter doesn’t immediately lead to a job, Munoz recommends that jobseekers stay connected with employers they meet at the job fair.

“Be persistent,” she said. “Don’t give up. I would say keep persisting and keep looking.”
