TLC singer hospitalized. What we know about their South Florida show

Fans of ‘90s hit girl band TLC are concerned.

Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins was hospitalized due to a health setback late last month.

Watkins was diagnosed with sickle cell disease, a chronic blood disorder, as a child. The condition, according to the Cleveland Clinic, causes normally round red blood cells to become “sickle-shaped” and “rigid,” reducing oxygen delivery to tissues. Episodes of SCD, which can a can severe pain and organ damage, are often triggered by dehydration, an infection or stress.

The 56-year-old singer was forced to pull out of the last few stops on the “It’s Iconic” tour, which kicked off Aug. 15 in Franklin, Tennessee. Fellow throwback icons Salt-N-Pepa (”Shoop,” “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Whatta Man”) are co-headliners.

Watkins was unable to take the stage for the Aug. 30 show in Mansfield, Massachusetts, the Atlanta Black Star reports.

The big question remains: Will she be well enough by Sept. 24? That’s when the tour, with En Vogue as the opener, hits Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. Reps for the Broward venue told the Miami Herald the show would continue as planned.

On the Atlanta duo’s official Instagram Thursday, a statement said that “the recovery period can vary and may take days or weeks,” adding the situation is “not considered life-threatening.”

But if Watkins is not out of the woods by then, enjoy the memories anyway. Her longtime TLC partner, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, will step up to perform their biggest hits like “Scrubs,” “Waterfalls” and “Creep” solo. The 55-year-old artist has reportedly done the last few concerts in her pal’s absence with no issues.

“Tionne looks forward to returning to the tour when she is fully recovered and medically cleared,” continued the statement. “We deeply appreciate everyone’s continued prayers and patience.”
