Roaches and rodents on the buffet line at a Hialeah Golden Corral

A buffet marred by much more than mediocre mass-produced food caused a state inspector to shut down the Golden Corral in Hialeah on Monday.

The location at 1734 W. 49th St. got back in business by passing re-inspection Tuesday. There weren’t that many violations to fix, 11 total violations of which five were high priority. But several involved vermin, which can be stubborn squatters to remove.

The inspector saw “six rodent droppings under the hot holding units at buffet.”

A roach control device inside the buffet line’s hot holding units had 10 dead roaches. Eight roach corpses filled a device on the buffet line’s cold holding unit.

The meat room floor had a dead roach. So did the dishwasher drain board. Three roaches died under kitchen and preparation area equipment, where there were also two live roaches.

Back on the buffet line, two live roaches were “crawling on the hot food dispenser.” Two live roaches were moving under a rack near the dishwashing area.

The buffet line waffle maker was “soiled with food debris and grease.”

Rust on two tomatillo sauce cans and rust with dents on five creamy mushroom sauce cans drew Stop Sales on all seven cans.
