Quinnen Williams Believes Dallas Can Still Reach Its Goals in 2026

The Dallas Cowboys still believe they can turn their season around despite a difficult stretch, and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is confident the team has the talent to accomplish its goals in 2026.

Dallas enters its Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles looking to snap a two-game losing streak after falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. With the Cowboys needing improvement on both sides of the ball, Williams emphasized the importance of responding with a stronger performance and correcting the mistakes that have contributed to their struggles.

Williams emphasizes importance of getting back on track

For Williams, winning remains the priority as Dallas attempts to regain momentum. The All-Pro defensive tackle views the upcoming matchup as an opportunity for the Cowboys to begin correcting their problems and establish greater consistency.

“It’s super important to get back in that win column,” Williams said. “I play this game to win. It’s a great opportunity to build on what we need to build on as a defense unit and as a team, and I’m grateful for the next opportunity.”

Williams also stressed the importance of learning from previous mistakes rather than allowing recent results to define the team’s season.

“We’re focusing on development, getting better and not making the same mistakes that we’ve been making; and learning from our mistakes to take advantage of the opportunities for when we have the time to rush,” Williams said. “We’re getting to do the things we want to do, especially me and [Kenny Clark] as a unit.”

The Cowboys need their defensive front to make a greater impact, particularly when rushing the passer. Converting pressure into sacks and disrupting opposing offenses could help Dallas create more opportunities for its secondary.

Joey Porter Jr. gives Cowboys defense a boost

The Cowboys’ addition of cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has provided another reason for optimism as the defense works toward becoming more consistent.

Porter made his Dallas debut in the team’s victory over the Houston Texans before missing the following game because of an illness. He then impressed against Green Bay, showcasing his ability to compete in man coverage against opposing receivers.

Williams praised Porter’s performance and the confidence he brings to the defense.

“Man, he’s unbelievable,” Williams said of Porter. “I watched the film from last week, and to see him cover guys one-on-one, and the energy he brings, and the celebration he does every time he locks something up is super dope to see. It’s all about getting our swagger back and being consistent, and that’s one of the guys you see on tape every single day playing with swag and consistency.”

Porter’s coverage ability could complement the pressure Dallas hopes to generate up front. If the defensive line can give opposing quarterbacks less time to throw, the secondary may have more opportunities to force inaccurate passes and create turnovers.

That connection between the pass rush and coverage will be important as defensive coordinator Christian Parker continues working to improve the unit. Getting impact players back from injury could also help the Cowboys build on their progress in the coming weeks.

Williams believes Dallas has the ability to reach its goals

Despite the team’s recent struggles, Williams believes Dallas has enough talent and coaching to accomplish what it set out to achieve this season. However, he acknowledged that the defense must improve before those ambitions can become reality.

“Right now, we’ve got a lot of things we need to fix, especially on the defensive side,” Williams said. “I haven’t been playing to the standard that I wanna be able to play at, to be a game-changer. All of that stuff is in the front of my mind.”

Dallas now has an opportunity to put that message into action against Philadelphia. Ending its losing streak would provide a valuable boost, but the Cowboys will need sustained improvement in execution, pass-rush production and defensive consistency to turn their potential into results.
