Patrick Mahomes’ mom debunks story that Chiefs star has a home at Lake of Ozarks
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took the unusual step last year of addressing a fake story that was widely shared on social media and eventually made its way on ESPN’s “Pat McAfee Show.”

The AI generated piece claimed Kelce had purchased a $3.3 million home in Kansas City to help homeless youth. Who doesn’t love a feel-good story, right? That apparently includes artificial intelligence.
“I gotta make a little statement in the ‘don’t believe everything you read kids’ category or nice realm that you see online,” Kelce said. “Some false claims were thrown out there that I was doing something in the community that I was not. And I’m not even going to talk about it specifically. I don’t want to bring any more attention to that whole nonsense and article and all that stuff. But if you ever want to know exactly what I’m doing in the community, just go to 87running.org. We’re always trying to get out there and get in the Kansas City community and the Cleveland community.
“But you know, this time, I wasn’t doing what was falsely claimed by the social channels or the outlets posting all this AI stuff. So just wanted to set the record straight. Appreciate everybody for always trying to show love, especially Pat McAfee is always trying to look out for the guys and women in the sports world. And, yeah, thanks, you guys.”
My crack research team* has unearthed fake stories in the past about Chiefs coach Andy Reid retiring; Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes divorcing Current co-owner, Brittany Mahomes; Reid splitting from his wife, Tammy; and photos of Kelce from his wedding to superstar singer Taylor Swift.

*Well, my mom has seen these things on Facebook
Another one that won’t seem to go away is Mahomes owning a house in the Lake of the Ozarks. It’s been on Reddit, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. The latter was a posting a few months ago and the person who shared a video wrote: “Sources claim this is Mahomes lakehouse.” Later, she updated the post to say: “Sources are incorrect.”
The good thing about that post is it caught the attention of Mahomes’ mother, Randi, who unequivocally denied her son having a home at the Lake of the Ozarks.
“I wish,” Randi Mahomes wrote in the comments, “i love the lake 😍”
Ah, well, a Mahomes house at the Lake of the Ozarks would have made for a good story.
