No heat advisory? Keep the water bottle handy as the weekend promises a change

An ongoing two-day drop in South Florida’s dewpoint Tuesday and Wednesday brought steamy Miami slight relief from the oppressive feels-like heat that had generated 12 consecutive days of heat advisories from the National Weather Service in Miami. That swelter had endured until last Saturday.

Monday earned an advisory and the threat of a new string, but the reprieve may hold off another day or so with Friday and Saturday the most likely days to trigger another advisory. A sustained heat index of 105 has to hold for two hours. The daily regular air temperature highs will still run 90 to 91 from Wednesday to Monday.

The trade-off?

The rain chances grew, nearly doubling to 60% on Sunday into Monday, according to the service. Blame tropical moisture moving in from the east and a rising heat index on the weekend, said meteorologist Shane Hinton from CBS News Miami.

“Even higher rain chances arrive for Monday as stickier conditions arrive in South Florida,” he said.
