Mystics use fast start to notch road win over Fever

Led by Kiki Iriafen’s 21 points and 14 rebounds, the Washington Mystics defeated the Indiana Fever 93-77 on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis.

In her first game back from a one game absence due to personal reasons, Sonia Citron scored 16 points and tied her career high in assists with nine. Shakira Austin collected her 19th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes, but Austin left the game at the 3:46 mark in the fourth quarter with an apparent injury.

Fever star Caitlin Clark scored a game-high 25 points on 6-of-20 shooting from the field and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

Washington won the season series against Indiana 2-1. The Fever (27-15) are now one game behind the Atlanta Dream for fourth place and one game ahead of New York, Washington and Dallas, all tied at 26-16.

The Mystics never trailed Sunday as they turned an early double-digit lead into a 34-19 margin after the first quarter.

In the second, Indiana shot 2-from-19 from the field as they went 7:43 between made field goals. Kelsey Mitchell was the only player to make a field goal in the second quarter for Indiana.

Mitchell extended her record streak of 20-point games to 26 as she scored 22 points on 8-for-20 shooting from the field. Mitchell’s streak of scoring 25 points in a game ended at six.

Washington led by as many as 26 before taking a 51-30 lead into halftime.

Indiana was able to cut Washington’s lead to 14 on Aliyah Boston’s post-up at the 9:41 mark in the fourth quarter. The Mystics responded with a 7-0 run featuring a 3-pointer from Georgia Amoore and two buckets by Austin. Indiana never got closer than 14 again.

The Fever had a season-low 13 assists as a team.
