Granado, 53, rode his bicycle to Lazo’s home at Southwest 148th Avenue in the Victoria Parc neighborhood late Thursday morning. After an argument, Granado shot Lazo and then turned the gun on himself, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Court records show Lazo filed a restraining order against Granado on April 28. Lazo filed for multiple extensions on the order since then, the final of which Circuit Judge Michaelle Gonzalez-Paulson denied Sept. 30 for “no just cause,” court records show.
The initial filing describes Granado as a “former live-in boyfriend” who owns firearms and has a history of drug and alcohol abuse. Granado also formerly served in the U.S. military, the petition states.
Court records show Granado living at the same address back to 2023. Lazo owned the home, according to the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser. Other than traffic infractions, Lazo does not have a criminal history in Miami-Dade County, records show.
The injuction petition states Granado lived in a house at the 14800 block of Southwest 91st Terrace in Kendall, about six miles from Lazo’s home.
Lazo did not have an attorney listed in the docket for her injunction. An attorney listed for Granado did not immediately respond to questions from the Miami Herald.

The petition did not detail events that led to Lazo fearing Granado, but she checked a box stating he “engaged in behavior or conduct” that made Lazo “to have reasonable cause to believe” she is “in imminent danger of becoming a victim of domestic violence.”
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics took Lazo to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition. Her condition as of Friday was not immediately available. Paramedics pronounced Granado dead when they arrived at the home.
The shooting shocked neighbors in the quiet neighborhood near Country Walk, with tree-shaded roads and concrete, tiled-roof homes.
Debbie Sullivan was taking an afternoon walk down SW 154th Court around 12:30 pm. Since moving to Victoria Parc in 1998, Sullivan, 70, said the neighborhood has always been quiet and safe.
“This is very unusual,” Sullivan said. “Especially something to this extreme.”
