Miami Heat’s new superstar Giannis buys a $13.5 million mansion

The Miami Heat’s newest star just bought a place to lay his head.

A company linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greek-born power forward who was traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Heat earlier this year, bought a newly built mansion at 6290 Chapman Field Dr. in Pinecrest for $13.5 million.

Pinecrest, an affluent South Miami-Dade suburb east of Kendall, has become popular with buyers looking for larger homes and larger yards. And the eight-bedroom home Antetokounmpo just bought will have plenty of room for his family. Antetokounmpo and his wife, Mariah Antetokounmpo, have four young children.

The home, which sits on a one-acre lot, was built by developer Fouad Kraishan.

Kraishan did not immediately respond to the Miami Herald’s request for comment.

The two-time NBA MVP will make nearly $60 million a year playing in Miami. He signed a three-year, $175 million contract with the Heat after spending more than a decade with the Bucks.

Antetokounmpo was part of a massive trade in which the Bucks picked up Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakučionis. The Heat got Bobby Portis in addition to Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo isn’t the only athlete who has called Pinecrest home over the years. The relative seclusion of the sedate suburb likely appeals to sports stars looking for privacy.

Numerous former Heat players lived in the village during their time playing in Miami. Dion Waiters, Lamar Odom and Charles Andersen all owned homes in Pinecrest, and Jimmy Butler sold his home in the Pinecrest area for $7 million in 2021.

Herro, who was traded from the Heat to the Bucks in the deal that brought Antetokounmpo to South Florida, listed his Pinecrest home earlier this year. Herro is asking $12 million for the eight-bedroom home, which is right around the corner from Antetokounmpo’s new place.

Other athletes who have owned homes in Pinecrest include Houston Rockets player Jeff Green, who sold his Pinecrest home for $15.5 million earlier this year. Luis Severino, a baseball player with the Oakland Athletics, bought a home in Pinecrest last year for $10.7 million, and David Ortiz, a retired Boston Red Sox player, sold his Pinecrest home for $10.6 million in 2023.
