Miami-Dade man jailed on charges of stabbing his sleeping wife in the back

A Miami-Dade man is behind bars after, deputies say, he stabbed his unsuspecting wife in the back — as she slept in their bedroom.

Pratapsinh Thakor, 75, appeared on Wednesday in bond court, where a judge told him he will remain at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. Thakor is facing attempted felony murder charges and domestic violence battery charges.

The stabbing occurred on Tuesday around 1 a.m. Thakor’s arrest report doesn’t list the address of the residence, although property records indicate Thakor and several relatives own a condo on the 1400 block of Northeast Miami Gardens Dr., just outside North Miami Beach.

Thakor stabbed his wife in the back, waking her up, according to the report. She begged for him to stop and wrestled the knife away from him, deputies say.

Thakor then began punching her, the report states. But the woman was able to get away and call law enforcement.

When deputies arrived to the residence, they found Thakor on the ground, holding his wife by her hair, according to the report.

Thakor’s wife was taken to HCA Florida Aventura and treated for two stab wounds. She sustained a punctured lung and also had injuries on her back and arm as well as a bloody mouth.

Deputies, the report says, seized a “lethal cutting instrument” at the scene.

The reason for the stabbing is unclear. When handcuffed by investigators, Thakor denied jabbing his wife with a knife.

Thakor has a hearing set for Thursday, where another judge will determine if he should be jailed until his trial.
