Miami Beach cops warn of a possible escaped prisoner near Mount Sinai, officials say

Streets near Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach have been cordoned off as police officers try to determine if a prisoner escaped, authorities say.

Around 4:20 p.m., Miami Beach Police Department announced on X they were in the midst of the investigation, warning to stay away from the area. Authorities did not give more information behind the report of a “possible escaped prisoner.”

The Miami Herald was told by people at the medical center that there were dozens of law-enforcement officers swarming the area from several agencies, including Miami Beach police.

This week, the Federal Bureau of Prisons announced Sherman Kemp, a drug dealer with a 27-year prison sentence, disappeared between a correctional facility in Miami and one in Georgia.

He was last seen at the Greyhound bus station at the Miami International Airport’s Intermodal Center. Authorities warned he has “violent tendencies.”

Miami Beach police did not say if the “escaped prisoner” they are investigating and Kemp are the same person.

Kemp, 47, is still at large. He is 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is also known as “Goose.”
