We’ve known for a while now that star quarterback Sam Darnold won’t suit up for this one. The quarterback suffered a glute injury in Week 1, and it’s expected that he’ll miss a few weeks.

The Seahawks were able to win without Darnold in Week 1, so the hope is that they can do the same in Week 2. Drew Lock has been a solid backup, but of course, there’s no replacing a quarterback who’s been as productive as Darnold.

Luckily, general manager John Schneider delivered a very positive update on Darnold right before kickoff of Week 2.

Schneider Says Darnold ‘Making Great Progress’

Sam Darnold has been a completely different quarterback over the last two seasons. No quarterback in the league has more wins over the last two seasons than Darnold does, and he’s thrown for over 4,000 yards in both campaigns.

The Seahawks have hopes of repeating as Super Bowl champions, so getting Darnold healthy is crucial. The team proved they can still be competitive without Darnold, but they don’t have the high ceiling without him.

On Sunday, Schneider appeared on Seahawks Radio Network and revealed some good news about Darnold.

The general manager said Darnold is doing “great” and “making great progress” in his recovery. Schneider also added that the team hopes he can return to practice in some capacity this week.

If that’s the case, that seemingly indicates he could come back before Week 5. That Week 5 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers has been circled as the most likely return date for Darnold, and it would definitely be nice to have him back for that tough divisional matchup.

The next three games for the Seahawks are at the Cardinals, at the Commanders, and at home against the Chargers.
