It’s Time For Fox Sports To Move On From Gus Johnson

Gus Johnson is a legend in the sports broadcasting world.

The longtime play-by-play man is known for his eccentric broadcasting style and his iconic screams during big moments, whether it’s a college football game in September or an NCAA Tournament game in March.

But it’s time for Fox Sports to move on from him.

On Saturday, Johnson was on the call of the Ohio State vs. Kent State game. Johnson left a lot to be desired from his performance. It’s unclear if he was just unhappy with FOX’s schedule or tired or something else, but he didn’t give fans what they deserved in Week 3 on Saturday.

Johnson went viral for his less-than-ideal reaction to an epic touchdown from Ohio State five-star freshman Chris Henry Jr. on Saturday.

Johnson is known for his electric calls, but he didn’t give Ohio State or Henry one on Saturday.

“Fox Sports has to do something about Gus Johnson. This is unacceptable commentary,” one fan wrote.

Fox Sports needs to move on next year

Johnson is undoubtedly a legend in the sports announcing space, but Father Time comes for everyone, and it’s time for the network to move in a different direction with its play-by-play voice.

Joel Klatt is excellent as the top analyst and he deserves to be paired with a top-tier play-by-play man at this stage of his career.

Unfortunately, Johnson is just no longer a top-tier play-by-play man, and that’s OK, but it’s something that Fox Sports needs to recognize. We’re getting more and more disappointing moments like the one we had on Saturday from Johnson. The network airs some of the biggest college football games of the season and it’ll be good to have a new voice in the main play-by-play chair when the 2027 college football season begins.
