Hurricanes’ Lyle goes through warmups at Wake Forest but doesn’t play

Junior running back Jordan Lyle was dressed and on the field for warmups at Allegacy Financial Stadium, the first time he had done so this season.

However, he did not get on the field for the Hurricanes’ 33-20 win over Wake Forest.

Lyle also did not play in either of Miami’s first two games — a 45-6 win at Stanford and 77-7 win at home against Florida A&M. The Hurricanes did not specify why he did not play, but Lyle’s status with the team had been in limbo since he was arrested in mid-August on a warrant stemming from charges for aggressively fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and reckless driving in mid-July.

The second-degree felony Lyle was originally charged with by the Sunrise Police Department for aggressively fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, the more severe of his two charges, was dropped earlier this month, according to the Broward Clerk of Courts website. Lyle is still being charged with reckless driving, which is a second-degree misdemeanor. Six additional citations — speeding, improper passing, failing to drive in a single lane, following too closely, failing to obey traffic control and running a red light — have been added to his charges. None of those additional charges are felonies or misdemeanors.

During that incident, Lyle was clocked going 92 mph driving north near the West Sunrise Boulevard entrance ramp of the Sawgrass Expressway in Broward County shortly after 7 p.m. July 10. The speed limit in the area is 65 mph, according to a Sunrise Police Department probable cause affidavit. He then allegedly was estimated to be driving 130 mph by a Sunrise Police Department officer while fleeing a traffic stop on the Sawgrass Expressway, according to the affidavit.

Lyle has an arraignment hearing set for Oct. 5, according to his case docket.

Throughout the process, Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal has said he and UM would let the legal process play out.

Lyle, a junior, has rushed for 508 yards and five touchdowns through his first two seasons with the Hurricanes. After a breakout freshman season — rushing for 400 yards and four touchdowns on 54 carries (a 7.4 yards-per-carry average) — Lyle started Miami’s marquee season opener in 2025 against Notre Dame but left that game early with injury. He struggled to get back on the field after that, finishing with just 35 carries for 108 yards.

Miami entered the season with enviable depth at running back. Mark Fletcher Jr. leads the group. Three other key contributors from Miami’s 2025 season that ended in a College Football Playoff National Championship Game appearance in Lyle, CharMar “Marty” Brown and Girard Pringle Jr. also returned. Additionally, the Hurricanes added freshman Javian Mallory, a former four-star prospect from West Boca who has impressed this fall.

However, both Brown and Fletcher sustained injuries in the win over Wake Forest so that depth is about to be tested.
