Knicks Begin Their Championship Defense Against A Familiar Rival

New York’s championship banner ceremony will make this more than an ordinary regular-season opener. The Knicks return to Madison Square Garden with a title to defend and the pressure that accompanies being the team everyone wants to beat.

Brunson remains the focal point of New York’s offense. His ability to create shots, control late-game possessions and deliver in pressure situations played a major role in the Knicks’ championship success.

Philadelphia will attempt to spoil the celebration. James brings extraordinary experience and playmaking ability to a 76ers team seeking to establish itself as a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

One of the biggest questions will be how quickly Philadelphia can develop offensive chemistry. Playing against a championship-tested opponent on opening night offers an immediate opportunity to evaluate the team’s progress.

The atmosphere should be exceptional, with New York celebrating its championship before turning its attention toward another long season. For Philadelphia, winning at Madison Square Garden would provide an impressive beginning to its new era.
