Homestead man hit cyclist with SUV and shot at him, MDSO says

A Homestead man faces serious criminal charges after the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office says he forced a bicyclist off the road with his SUV in Cutler Bay, hit another man riding a bike with his vehicle and then shot at him.

Raimiero Rios, 40, surrendered to the sheriff’s office on Monday night and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle, according to his arrest report.

The sheriff’s office said Rios was driving his black SUV southbound on Southwest 87th Ave. on Saturday around 7:30 a.m., just south of 184th Street, when he got behind two cyclists.

He began honking his horn before aiming his vehicle at the men, according to the arrest report. One man was forced off the road. Rios bumped into the second man before pulling out a gun and firing a shot in his direction, deputies said.

The man was not shot, and neither man was injured, according to the report.

A judge set Rios’ bond at $5,000 on the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, and as of Tuesday morning, bond had not been set on the other charges. Information on his legal representation was not immediately available.
