Sometime before 3:30 p.m., the siblings were huddled over a pizza in their Lauderhill apartment as their mother stepped outside to get the mail, Lauderhill police said.

As the 10-year-old girl was cutting a slice, her brother became upset as he hadn’t gotten his yet. The little girl would later tell officers that her brother grabbed the knife and threw it at her, the blade hitting her chest.

Their mother, who was not identified, returned to her daughter running out of their home, bleeding from her chest.
