Fort Meade says water is now safe to drink without boiling

Fort Meade has rescinded a precautionary boil-water advisory that had been in effect since Sept. 8.

The city posted the notice on its website effective at noon on Sept. 19.

“The Precautionary Boil Water Notice was issued due to damage resulting from a water main line break,which may have caused a loss of water pressure within the City of Fort Meade water distribution system,” the notice said. “The necessary corrective actions have been completed, and the required bacteriologicalsampling has been satisfactorily completed. The bacteriological survey shows that the water issafe to drink.”

Customers of the city’s water system had been advised to boil water before consumption or use in cooking. That is no longer necessary, the city said.
