Ford recalls over 220,000 vehicles. See affected models

Ford has recalled more than 220,000 vehicles due to a fuel tank defect that could increase the risk of a crash or fire, according to a notice published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

The automaker issued the recall on Sept. 9, warning that a “detached tank can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.” Additionally, a fuel leak can “cause an engine stall or increase the risk of fire,” the recall notice adds.

“The fuel tank may be improperly secured and leak fuel, or detach from the vehicle while driving,” according to Ford’s recall notice.

According to Ford, the affected vehicles “are equipped with front fuel tank straps that may have been improperly assembled” from Jan. 4, 2023, through Aug. 27, 2026. Fuel tank straps are strong metal bands that hold a vehicle’s fuel tank to its chassis or frame, per O’Reilly Auto Parts.

Which Ford models are affected?

According to the NHTSA, 223,472 vehicles are potentially affected.

The models included are:

• 2023-2027 Ford F-150

No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. The recall number is 26S69.

What should car owners do?

The NHTSA advises car owners to take their vehicle to the dealership to get the fuel tank straps inspected and replaced if needed, at no charge.

Notification letters will be sent out to impacted owners on Sept. 21.
