DeMarcus Ware on Von Miller’s Impact On Cowboys

This past offseason, two-time Super Bowl champion and 8-time Pro Bowler Von Miller joined the Dallas Cowboys. Miller signed a one-year contract on August, 16, 2026 with a base salary of $5.5 million that has a max value of $7.5 million with incentives, according to Ian Rapport.

Per Nicki Jhabvala and Jon Machota of The Athletic, Miller wants to prove that he can play another season.

“I think I proved to myself that I can play another year,” said Miller, who turned 37 in March. “I want to be here (in Washington), but I’m not in a position to start making demands and saying where I want to play and where I want to be at. Whoever wants me, that’s where I’ll be.”

Miller, who played his high school football at Desoto High School and then played his college football at Texas A&M is currently in his 15^th season in the NFL.

Miller’s former teammate, who he won the Super Bowl in Denver with, and former Cowboy DeMarcus Ware shared what he is bringing to Dallas at the 2026 Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Tennis Classic.

“I think him joining the team, playing with him in Denver, winning the Super Bowl with him. I think the experience that he that he’s bringing here for the boys, and sometimes that’s what you need. I mean, every year we always have a lot of talent, but the experience in winning in the postseason and having that veteran push from Von, I think it’s going to be great,” said Ware.

“So, I’m just excited. I mean, first game wasn’t how we wanted it to look, but they got a game tomorrow, a big you know game against Washington, I think. So, I’m looking forward to see how they’re going to bounce back, especially with Von playing there, you know, last year, how they really gonna dial things in and see how you know they’re gonna play this week.”

As Ware stated, the Cowboys indeed play Washington Commanders at 3:25 pm CST at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday afternoon.

Von Miller Opens Up About His Time With Commanders Last Season

Last season Von Miller was a member of the Washington Commanders as a part of Dan Quinn’s defensive scheme.

“I love the Commanders, everything about them,” Miller said on the Sept. 16 edition of “Free Range w/ Von Miller.” “They picked me. I had an opportunity to play football; I was able to get [nine] sacks. I was able to experience the culture and the history of what made the Washington Commanders who they are, and I’ll forever be appreciative of that.

“But is it one of those things where I didn’t go back, now I’m angry? No, it’s just another game and honestly, I don’t have that emotional attachment to the Washington Commanders that I would have if I played for the Buffalo Bills or the Denver Broncos.”

“Like, when I’m in and when I’m at these places, I don’t have, like, it’s cut off the year before what’s happening next. I’m in the present moment, and I gave the Commanders all of me on and off the football field.”

Miller finished the 2025-2026 season with nine sacks, 16 combined tackles (16 solo, 10 assists), and zero forced fumbles or interceptions in 17 games.
